I gave myself a road trip for my birthday as I wanted to visit some friends and family who live further afield. I met my friend Phillipa whilst we were studying A-level biology in 1984. I hadn’t seen her for many years, around fifteen I think, since she got a different job and moved away. I wanted to make her a quilt and I have been enjoying looking at the scrappy trip around the world quilts which are being posted on Instagram. Bonnie K. Hunter’s tutorial for this quilt can be found here on her blog, Quiltville.

I used fabric from my stash, lots of leftovers from other projects. |

Using a large variety of fabrics works well for this quilt. |

Sandwiching the quilt; top, wadding and backing fabric |

Snowy styling! |

I got the quilt longarm quilted by this company. Debbie did a brilliant job. |

All wrapped up with the other gifts I took for friends and family on my trip. |

Phillipa killed (and cooked!) the fatted calf! |

As it was St Patrick’s Day Phillipa made a fabulous Irish dessert! |
It was brilliant catching up with Phillipa and her lovely family and I had the most wonderful time on my road trip visiting my sister, my best friend and my cousin. There are a lot of cheesy quotes and affirmations on the internet but I read one recently that I really liked and it was this –
You know all those things you’ve always wanted to do? You should go do them.
